1.68. Towage of the trailer or car


Abstain from towage of the trailer throughout the first 2000 km of a run for providing extra earnings of details of the new car. Not observance of this precautionary measure can lead to serious damage of the engine or transmission.

Towing hooks

Choose the correct combination of the traction coupling device, having convinced that its arrangement coincides with the place of fastening on the trailer or the towed car. Use the traction coupling device which evenly distributes load of the chassis.

Do not connect the brake system of the trailer to the brake system of the car.
At towage of the trailer on the steep slope (exceeding 12%), pay special attention to the index of temperature of cooling liquid of the engine not to allow an engine overheat. If the arrow of the index of temperature of cooling liquid of the engine entered a zone "H" (Hot) of a scale, stop the car in the safe place and let's the engine work idling until it cools down. After that you can continue the movement.

The maximum mass of the trailer and the maximum load on the coupling device

Load of the coupling device can be increased or reduced by redistribution of loading in the trailer. It is possible to be convinced of it by check of full mass of the loaded trailer and check of load of the coupling device.

Do not load the trailer so that its back part was loaded more lobby. 60% of the mass of freight in the trailer have to fall on a forward half of the trailer, and the remained 40% for a back half.
The full mass of the trailer should not exceed the indicators specified in the table.
Load of a forward or back axis should not exceed the maximum load on an axis specified on the identification plate of the car. It is possible that the mass of the towed trailer does not exceed the full mass of the car, but exceeds the maximum load on an axis. The wrong loading of the trailer and / or too large number of baggage in a luggage carrier of the car can lead to an overload of a back axis. Redistribute loading, and again check load of axes.
The most permissible static vertical load on the coupling device makes 50 kg.

1. Before towage check connections of the coupling device, safety chains, and also operation of lighting lamps, stoplights and indexes of turns of the trailer.
2. Always try to move at a moderate speed.
3. Towage of the trailer demands bigger amount of fuel.
4. For effective braking by the engine and works of system of charging, do not include the fifth transfer (the mechanical transmission) or the raising transfer (the automatic transmission).
5. Always fix baggage in the trailer that it could not be thrown out on the road to time of the movement.

15. In case of a stop at rise on the mountain, do not hold the car on the place by pressing an accelerator pedal. It can lead to an overheat of the automatic transmission. Use a pedal of a brake or the parking brake.


In case of an engine overheat during towage (the index of temperature of cooling liquid in a red zone of a scale), you can eliminate malfunction as follows:

1. Switch off the conditioner.
2. Reduce car speed.
3. At rise include a low gear.
4. If you got to traffic jam, transfer the selector to situation "P" ("Parking") or "N" ("Neutral transfer") and let's the engine work on the increased idling turns.
