Brake shoes on back drum brakes

1 – rack of support of brake shoes;
2 – brake board;
3 – working brake cylinder;
4 – lever latch;
5 – razzhimny level;
6 – lever of the parking brake;
7 – top returnable spring;
8 – back brake shoe;
9 – spring;
10 – clip;
11 – brake drum;
12 – lower returnable spring;
13 – regulator spring;
14 – front brake shoe.


1. Remove a wheel and the brake drum.
2. Remove a clip of support of a brake shoe, a spring of the automatic regulator and the lever of the regulator.
3. Press blocks and remove the regulator of blocks.
4. Remove brake shoes together with returnable springs.


1. Measure the internal diameter of the brake drum. The indicator of hour type check a beating of the brake drum. Replace the brake drum if the internal diameter of a drum exceeds maximum permissible value.

Maximum diameter: 200 mm
Beating of the brake drum: 0,015 mm

2. Measure thickness of overlays of back brake shoes. Replace all brake shoes on one axis of the car even if only one block has thickness, smaller maximum permissible.

Minimum admissible thickness: 1,0 mm

3. Check overlays of brake shoes for lack of pollution by oil or lubricants, wear and cracks.
4. Examine working brake cylinders on lack of leak of brake fluid.
5. Examine a brake board on lack of wear or damages.
6. Check uniformity of a prileganiye of a brake shoe to the brake drum.


1. Grease with lubricant the following points of contact of brake shoes:
a. points of contact of brake shoes with a brake board;
b. points of contact of brake shoes with the support plate.

The recommended lubricant: SAE J310, NLGI No. 2

2. Establish a rack of support of a brake shoe.
3. Establish returnable springs on brake shoes.
4. After installation of the brake drum several times tighten the lever of the parking brake.
